When gums recede, the root surface of the tooth is exposed. You’ll notice it’s not the same color as the rest of the tooth. It’s not meant to be exposed, and that’s why it wears down so fast.
The solution? We restore this part of the tooth, and we do this by filling in the gap between the gum and the tooth with a special composite material.
This way, the root surface of the tooth is protected from further damage, and the gum is protected from further recession.
It’s a win-win situation.
But there’s more to it than that.
You see, the reason why your gums receded in the first place is because of the bacteria that’ve been eating away at your gum tissue (which is called periodontitis).
These bacteria the same bacteria that cause gum disease, and they’re the same bacteria that’ll cause bad breath.
Eventually, there’s a good chance your teeth will become loose too.
So, when I’m restoring your receded gums, I’ll also be removing all the bacteria that’ve been eating away at your gum tissue, and causing your gums to recede in the first place.
